texas in the spring

mid-march and well into april you can find plenty of blue belles lining the Texas highways, filling random fields and peeking out between the trees.  

these short lived beauties are a Texas tradition. 

when a bountiful patch of bluebonnets popped up a bit early in the season for the second year in a row right by the house we took advantage of the evening light.

sitting your babe in the middle of bluebonnets for 700 pictures every.single.year is like taking your kid to see Santa.  you just do it.   

the big girls acted like they had never seen a flower in their life and Baker was all smiles for her first experience.

Texas Blues

It is amazing how much change there can be in just one year's time.  Looking back to the pictures we snapped last year when the girls were just a couple month's past their first birthday, well, comparably they look like teenagers in these pictures.  It has been super wet/rainy and not optimal for picture taking in a random roadside field - but I was determined to carry on our bluebonnet tradition that started last year.  

Driving to a birthday party last weekend we passed a small patch of bluebonnets that was just right up the street from our neighborhood.  It was small- but it was FULL.  I was so overly excited that it wasn't 'too late' and they hadn't all been trampled.  With a busy week ahead, we made plans for Saturday morning after breakfast to take the short trip up the road to get into that field.  

 They didn't hate it - and were actually having fun playing out in the beauty of the weather that was Saturday.  Jolie was pretty freaked out by the flowers last year, and this year tolerated them well. 

This picture makes me laugh.. only because I feel like I am looking to the future of picture taking the twins.  

If thats not a 'sister pose' if you ever did see one..

Do bluebonnets have a smell?  The girls took  their time to take a whiff or two here and their as they ran through the flowers.

 Parker looks like a giant in this picture - but I can assure you that just about 2 inches and a pound or two doesn't fit the image at all.  Sweet Jo Grace is really petite, but standing next to her sister (who is standing closer to me and on higher ground) she looks extra teeny.

 ..and I'll leave you with a pouting Jolie for a few giggles.  This girl and her accessories.  I made her leave the sunglasses in the car and it was devastating to the toddler heart - clearly.

NEXT year the littlest sister will find her place right there in between - so crazy to think..

But I just can't wait!

Bluebonnets 2014

In Bloom

Bluebonnets.  The most commonly seen flower along roadsides and in uncultivated pastures throughout the state of Texas.. and where did we find this "field" of dainty little plants?

On the side of the road. Naturally.

March through May these blue beauties overtake the green and offer up prime photography opportunity for families. Particularly families with young children.  It's like visiting Santa in these parts.  You do it.  Your Texas baby (or babies) won't be Texan without the bluebonnets.

..and I'm totally serious.  

Our first bluebonnets experience could probably classify as a total fail. 

Jolie.  She hated it. Every minute.  

If she could talk she probably would be screaming the same baby profanities as she was in this picture.   

 Parker didn't seem to mind.  She popped a squat right there on top of those flowers.  

 You aren't supposed to actually pick the flowers.  Parker didn't listen. 

She didn't eat them, though.

Win in my book.

 A successful picture of the two of them looking at the camera.  

Boo Bear was loving the bluebonnets.  She has a thing for those flower weeds in the backyard.  With a never-ending stock of flower heads to pull, the poor girl didn't have enough 'hand space' to carry her bunches.

Oh, how I dream of those tiny flowers she will pick one day, bringing them to me to put in a water glass vase and proudly present them on the counter top for all to see. 

When your child has learned how to play 'peek-a-boo' you can no longer use that game to attempt to make her laugh or look in the general direction of the camera.

 But it still works for at least one of them..
