Beautiful Weekend (s)

Mother's Day Dinner at the Massey's
For Mother's Day, Jordan and I made dinner for Bree, his mom, and served it at their house. Jenna and her boyfriend, Adam were there to celebrate, too, and provided yummy appetizers!

One the menu was..

  • Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas
  • Spanish Rice
  • Black Beans
  • Fiesta Salad

and for dessert..a Raspberry Trifle, and it was yummy!
It was good, mild weather, so after dinner we sat out in the backyard and drank coffee and watched the dogs play.

Libby checking out this little 'thing' that keeps biting her tail! Dinner at the Lambert's
This past weekend, we were invited to eat dinner at our good friends new home. They just built a beautiful house in Aurora, Texas. Jordan and Gary are both at the same station on the fire department, and over the years we have become close.
Lily Lambert- She is precious!
The grill was 'broken'..so we brought the burgers inside ;) Tasted just as good.
I made cream filled cupcakes, and Lily ate her whole cupcake..one finger lick at a time.

Stephanie's Going Away Get Together
Saturday, all of the girls got together to say 'goodbye' to Stephanie. She took a job as a nutritionist at Head Start and will no longer be working at Baylor :( We all know this is not the last time we will see her, but it gave us a good reason to go eat sushi at Blue Fish, and then dessert at Pokey O's in Dallas! If you have not been there, I suggest you go. Pick your cookie, then pick your ice cream..the ultimate ice cream sandwich! It is delicious! My Pokey O Pick? Oatmeal Raisin Walnut with Blackberry Cobbler ice cream. W-O-W.

These past weekends have been beautiful, and not just the weather, although, yesterday was heaven sent.

Days of Taste 2009

"In this age of fast and frozen food, we want to teach school children about real food – where it is grown and how it is produced – so that they can develop an understanding and appreciation of how good food is supposed to taste.” - Julia Child, AIWF co-founder

Last week, I had another amazing opportunity to be apart of the Days of Taste program. I did it last October/November and loved it so much, I did it again! The program lasts for two weeks and during this time, young 4th and 5th grade students from local Dallas schools are brought in for a not-so-typical field trip to the Dallas Farmers Market. Each child got $1 to take to the market and purchase a fruit or veggie to go into a big pasta salad that they make themselves!
It was so rewarding to watch these kids learn new things and actually enjoy the idea of fresh fruits and vegetables from their very own city's market!

Days of Taste is sponsored by many businesses, but one of them is Pacugio, gelato place (Italian Ice Cream!). The owner and creator, Cristiana Ginatta, was so nice to come and speak with the kids about what she does, and best of all, she brought samples!!! This is one of my favorite spots to splurge, and we first visited while in Austin, but, there are several in the DFW area. Check it out if you haven't! It is delicious..or should I say, delizioso, buonissimo, or, saporito!
The First Day:
We had a large group!! The students are listening well to the volunteer chef, Jennifer Hood.
My Girls. We were the Red Pepper group! We decided to make our pasta salad with all vegetables-

Day Two!All the volunteers
All my best girlfriends from Baylor came with me the second day I volunteered
MKat, Me, Deeku, Shells Bells, Racheee Van
Close up! I see you, Shelley!
My Lemon Team! This time, my kids wanted to do all fruit! It is AMAZING how much you can buy for $5 at the Farmer's Market!
  • 1 carton of sweet strawberries
  • a small bunch of crisp purple grapes
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 soft green pear
  • 1 juicy apple
  • a handful of tart blackberries
  • 1 mango
  • 3 ruby red plums

I had a blast, once again!! Yay for Days of Taste!

A Long Saturday

Today Jordan and I spent a long day sitting at a voting location to support candidates for the City Counsel voting that took place. The Irving Fire Department supports certain candidates, and to show our support, firefighters and their families were sprinkled throughout Irving at different voting locations to represent. Jordan and I took our post at Irving High at about 7:30am in the misting rain. I packed a picnic and we brought Daphnee along with us for the day since her puppy bladder couldn't hold it for twelve hours! Yes, we were there ALL day. Throughout the day I took some randoms of Daphnee being silly, which made the day go by somewhat quickly. None of us, because needless to say, after the morning rain, no one was in any form for pictures! Anyway, it is good to be home..
Enjoy these pictures..they still make me smile!

Jordan and Sweet Girl playing with her new toy

Look at those ears!

We bought a leash for Daphnee the other night, and today was the first day for her to be on it. She was cracking both Jordan and myself up when it was time to walk, she would put the leash in her mouth, as if she was walking herself!

Who is leading who here?
Pooped after a long day of playing and just being plain adorable!

Cuddle Bug

Last night while I was making dinner, Daphnee was all over my feet trying to lay on them, and I kept moving around making it hard for her to get comfy. Finally she gave up, and next thing I know, I'm hearing the rustle of grocery bags in the pantry. Positive she was up to no good, I rush to see what in the world she was doing, and there she was, cuddled up with the onions! She slept there for a good 45 minutes while I finished dinner.

Then again, later, cuddling with me while I was reading my book (New Moon!) and she ended up in this position. I was laughing to tears, and Jordan snapped a picture.
She had another good night last night, and only got up twice! I think this is going to be easier than we thought :)

No More Red..No More Green..Thank GOODNESS!

Last July when we moved into our house, the only thing that really bothered me about it, was, well, the 'festivness' (if thats a word!) of it. I mean, I absolutely LOVE Christmas, but, not all year round. Not even my friend Shay would tolerate a green and red home, and she is one of those, along with myself, who starts the Christmas season after Halloween! Anyway, it was cute, and we said we would paint pretty quick after we moved in, but the inside work needed to be done..then came paramedic school..then came internship application and acceptance. So, FINALLY, almost a year later...
Its painted!! It makes it look SO much better, and almost like a new, new home. :) This picture almost doesn't do it justice. I think we are planning on getting a new door with glass to open it up a bit, but for now, we just painted the door that we already have. LOVE IT!

Meet Daphnee :)

This weekend we brought home the newest member of the Massey family- Daphnee. We picked her out from a breeder about 3 weeks ago, and finally it was time to pick her up! The breeder is a family member of a good friend from the fire department, so it was nice to make it semi-personal. She is a doll! So much personality and the smallest of the litter. She did well in her first night away from mom and brothers and sisters. Very little crying from her kennel, just when she needed to go potty! We took her out at...10:30pm, 12:45pm, again at 3am, and lastly she woke up at 5:45am. Jordan and I took turns, so it wasn't as bad as it seems, and we were kind of expecting it to go that way. She had a dry bed in the morning!
On our way to you new home!
Hi 'Big'..meet 'Little'. Brittany has done surprisingly well with the new 'crazy' little one. I'm still not so sure she knows what is going on, but, I think she'll get used to it sooner or later :)Excuse the quality..it was taken with the iPhone camera, still, just as cute!

After her first bath! She was so worn out..she was being incredibly sweet!

Yumm! Eating like a champ!
Jordan and I have discussed and made it clear that this is a trial run. We were on the fence about the whole thing, and getting another dog, and me getting into an internship and being busy, etc..but she seems to be okay right now, but it is only day one. If it ends up being a hassel, we decided to take her to Belton to live with Granny and Woogie..so we'll still get to see her anytime we want...
...But, I think she's a keeper, especially the way Jordan wont put her down! ;)

Collapse in Valley Ranch

On Saturday afternoon I was standing in my kitchen making chocolate cupcakes when I got a phone call from Jordan. I was suppossed to be taking these cupcakes to him and the rest of the guys at Station 6 that afternoon. Jordan called me from the fire engine (he tends to do this from time to time..Jordan: 'Hey Babe, what are you doing? Me: Nothing much, what are you up to? Jordan: Oh nothing, just driving the ambulance..' ) to tell me to hold off on my visit to the fire station because they were on their way to Valley Ranch because the practice dome had collapsed! That was the last thing I was expecting to hear! Anyway, that practice bubble is right up the street from our home in Coppell, so I hopped in my car and rode to the scene, like a crazy person, I know, but I just had to see what this thing looked like 'collapsed' after driving by it so often!

These are from CBS11 website.

Here are some from the actual scene that I took with my camera. It was a crazy sight to witness.

Jordan was on CBS11 news transporting one of the newest coaches, the one that broke his back. We are praying for all the families that delt with this on Saturday. Thank you Jordan, and the rest of the IFD for once again being the ones to run in, when everyone else is trying to get out
