back to school with Zappos + Stride Rite

I cannot believe we are already halfway through August!  I have seen about half of my fellow world wide web mamas send their babies off to preschool, kindergarten, FIRST grade!  I cannot even imagine fast forwarding a couple years to that moment of Parker and Jolie's (real) first day of school. the twins are going to preschool again this year (they started when they were two) and start back in just a couple weeks.  when I started thinking about preschool-friendly clothing and shoes for them to run and play and get dirty in, I knew we needed another pair of 'go fast shoes' for this new school year.
ahem, that would be sneakers in P+J speak, for the big girls.
I've teamed up with my friends at Zappos.com to share Parker + Jolie's favorite pair of shoes EVER.
literally.
I forced sweet Jolie out of them so she could take a bath and the entire time she was trying to convince me her reasoning for why she needed to wear her neeeeeewww shoes again after she got out.
"mama, I can wear my pink go-fast shoes with my jammies, you know."
gah.  I love her.
of course the bright cotton candy colors of the Stride Rite Leepz caught their eye when I pulled them out of the Zappos box, but when they realized that they LIGHT UP I thought they were going to have a stroke.  I told them their new shoes were for when school starts, and well, that basically opened a can of worms.  they asked me about 11 times between dinner + bathtime + bed if they were going to school "tomorrow"?
I would totally be freaked out if school started tomorrow. and I wish you could hear Parker say tomorrow.  she doesn't have a country girl accent like Jolie's (and J's is thick for some of her words..) but when she says tomorrow, she drops the 'ow' from the end of the word and replaces it with an "ah".
ANYway..
even if I would have waited to the last minute to figure out shoes for school, I would totally be confident in ordering from Zappos- these came in just one day!  ONE!  shipping was fast and free and  their 365 day return policy and helpful customer service would allow me to exchange sizes if I needed to. I honestly kind of took a guess as to what size I was going to get them in sneakers this year..I feel like my kids are in giant sizes, and when I ordered Parker the 10.5 in the Leepz; it was no longer toddler sizing.  *tear.
aside from the twins absolutely loving the look of these shoes, the girls are completely capable in putting the Leepz shoes on by themselves.  how easy is it to tell them to go put their shoes on and they can actually do it without a meltdown of needing me to help them tie the laces.  school encourages clothing and shoes that are functional for little hands (think potty breaks and nap time) to be able to help themselves, and I think these are right up that alley.
we are SO excited for preschool to start!
that.. and any reason to see our new go-fast shoes light up.

thank you Brittany for capturing the color and joy of my sweet girls in your amazing photos and to Zappos.com and Stride Rite for sponsoring this post.

time-out from the crazy with pinkblush + giveaway

this last week the weather has been outrageous- a real break in the heat from the 100+ temps we have become accustomed to over the last several months.  we have wanted nothing more than to just soak it in while we can!  it is August, so summer is definitely not over yet!
we live just outside a funky little college town..home to some really unique spots with hole in the wall diners and some of the best ice cream you have ever eaten. live music plays on the grassy knoll in from the court house after the sun goes down, and in this same spot just an hour earlier, under the 150 year old trees,  you can find about 75 men and women doing yoga in the grass.
the BEST kind of weather to enjoy this kind of esthetic of our town.
we have a favorite little breakfast spot- its open 24 hours a day and serves the BEST omelets (for me!) and chocolate chip pancakes (for the kids). after going back and for a minute about having breakfast for dinner or cheese burgers, we went for the breakfast! even though.. cheeseburgers are delicious at this one little spot.  not to mention it was open mic night and the rooftop seating was phenom! but alas.. the nibbles of chocolate chip pancakes soaked in maple syrup I steal off of Jolie's plate were calling my name.

after dinner we made our little spot on the grass to listen to the live music.  these days I am always looking for something to wear that is comfortable and cute but still allows me to not look like a complete mess when I'm trying to wrangle my little people.  I was introduced to pinkblush when I was pregnant with Baker.  looking for something to cover this bump, their maternity style of clothing was right up my alley.  I actually didn't even realize they had a full (and amazing) line of women's clothing completely outside of maternity clothes until recently.  the cold shoulder dress I am wearing is actually versatile enough to transition from maternity to non-maternity.  but for this bump-less gal over here I appreciate the longer length that this dress has to offer!

I've teamed up with pinkblush to offer one lucky winner $50 gift card to this trendy online boutique  towards anything they wish!  I know you mamas out there could use some easily transitional staple pieces in your closet, and every little bit helps to kick off a fresh start to this season's fall wardrobe, right?  RIGHT!! in the meantime, pinkblush has a promotion going right now, just use code WHATUNEED for 25% sitewide!
Enter for your chance to win in the rafflecopter giveaway below.
so much crazy going on right now in our little bubble- taking a break from the day to day and getting out and about for a family date is the best part of life and the kind of things I look forward to.
other things include.. starbucks.  solo target trips... starbucks on said solo target trips.
dont let me fool you. life is good, folks.
as always, thank you to Brittany for her talent in catching my crazy crew in the best light, and to Pinkblush for sponsoring this post.

mama picks | video monitor upgrade

its been long overdue that we upgrade to a new monitor.  we bought one.. or maybe it was a shower gift, but we got one with two cameras for when the twins were born and just decided to use the same one for Baker when she arrived.  we didn't splurge on anything as far as baby gear goes for Baker, except a highchair.  everything else, right down to her infant car seat, has been hand-me-down from the twins.
it worked just fine- ran out battery a little faster than it probably should have, and the touch screen still worked even though it was shattered after I dropped it on the kitchen floor trying to carry it and a load of laundry from one room to the next.. but it worked.  the twins, at three and half, don't necessarily need the monitor on them while they sleep anymore, and their room is literally three steps outside of our master bedroom, so I am not too worried about keeping up with that, but Baker for sure has a couple more years and for our future baby number four (not pregnant) we have talked about definitely getting another monitor.
I was browsing through a friend's baby registry recently and noticed she had the Levana digital monitor on her list.. I hadn't heard of this brand before!  which was no surprise because so much has changed in just the few short years we have been buying baby items/products/stuff.  literally, a couple days later I got an email about trying Levana's newest model, the Alexa.
well.  DUH! but it was so random and like they knew I was browsing:) right out of the box I was PUMPED about the 5" screen.  I am used to a much smaller screen, so this was like the biggest plus to me.  this monitor also doesn't have a base, it plugs into a USB cord, so its easier to move around for charging.  most of the time it stays on my nightstand to charge, but I've moved it to the kitchen before and the playroom.  you can even charge from your laptop or any USB outlets you already have- no special cord or base, but it does come with a charging cable. even with that being said, the 12 hour battery life allows me to have some time in between when I don't need to have it charging.  when the battery is low it alerts you by beeping.. which I found out around 2am one night.  all this beeping, I was so confused as to what was happening! but it allowed me to plug in the monitor and keep the video on Baker without waking up to a blank screen the next morning!
other good things..
 temperature sensors
feeding/nap timers
real-time clock
..and the reviews are awesome!

this particular model is brand new, and slightly cheaper than other versions of their monitors.  the camera is stationary but has a wedge so it allows me to move it in different angles to be able to fully see Baker's entire crib.  the camera is placed really high up, but I can see even the little details of her face because of the high resolution of the LCD digital screen.  our other camera was placed right below the 'Baker' sign and I got the same view, but in lower resolution.

most importantly, I can add up to four cameras to this monitor. so, if I wanted another one for the big girls' room, I could, and especially for eventually when another baby comes we can see both Baker and the newbie.  when we add another camera I will have to update how utilizing this monitor is with two cameras vs one.
I'm so glad I got the opportunity to try this monitor!
with the market inundated with options, this is one I am confident about.

choosing the right carseat | with baby cubby

we are definitely in a stage of transition when it comes to carseats.  we made the big switch from infant carrier to convertible carseat when the twins were about 14 months old, and while Baker still fits comfortably in her carrier (we have the Chicco Keyfit 30; same seat we used for the twins) it wont be long before we are ready to make the switch.  the big girls have been in the Britax Marathon for the last two years and are really starting to get tight in them- it is definitely time to make the switch from the convertible seat to the 5-point harness to booster seat. we had plans to make the switch for the twins and then let Baker use one of their convertible seats (carseats have a 6 year expiration date), just like we did with the infant carseat, but their seats are pretty worn.
they've been covered in goldfish, cheerios, french fries, m&m's..
they've been puked in.
they've been peed in.
they've been slept in and they've been drooled on.
..and spilled on by everything from chocolate milk to watermelon slushy.
..and in turn through the wash about 1400 times, no less.
Baker needs a new one.  for sure.
but where do I start?!  at first thought I really wanted to go with what I know and stick to the Britax.  but the options and styles and designs that have changed over the last couple years is impressive and I am so unsure where to start!  I've heard amazing things about the Nuna RAVA, and I'm always faithful to Chicco because I have used several components of that brand and have been really pleased every time .. and the Maxi Cosi is new to me, but hello - it looks like my baby is sitting in a cloud! plus the reviews on that one is 5 stars all the way.

outside of how a seat looks + feels, does the seat fit my chid comfortably?  height and weight limits go up pretty significantly with the transition to the convertible car seat, which makes it easier to spend a little more for quality because your babe will be spending a lot of time strapped into these things! and does it fit into my car? we have a third row bench in my car (I drive a GMC Acadia) and captain chairs in the second row.  so, while the big sisters are in the way back, Baker sits in one of the captain chairs.  rear facing a convertible seat in this row gives me more leeway and space; especially because the captain chairs move forward and backward.  I know not all cars have this capability, which is why its important to measure ever possible scenario.  because while that carseat looks amazing with all the bells and whistles, does it even fit?!  you do want to drive the car, right?  for this reason we put the carseat behind the passenger side because Jordan isn't a small guy and he would prefer not to drive with his knees in the dash.
choosing the right car seat when the market is inundated with baby gear can be stressful.  I was introduced to baby cubby's car seat guide  and it was SO helpful!  after browsing a little further to see what baby cubby was all about, I was pretty impressed and kind of relieved to see these recommendations coming from professionals and parents passionate about encouraging, inspiring, and reminding parents how amazing they are and how important their role is.  they have made shopping for the best and safest baby gear fun rather than stressful.
AND!
they price match everyday.
(even amazon)
how many times have I been standing in the check out line trying to convince someone to help a mother out and price match that highchair.. stroller.. pack and play..
in fact.. I was reading one of my favorite style and sale blogs and she posted about amazon's amazing deal on the Maxi Cosi Pria 85 convertible seat.  WELL.  baby cubby already price matched it.
Whats even better?  Use code themasseyspot10 for an extra 10% off your order!  I don't know about you, but obligatory purchases with heavy price points like these, I am always looking for a deal!  and $20-$40 off helps a TON!  which makes that Maxi Cosi seat a steal of a deal.. and I might have just used my own discount code- ha!
now.  you go do the same.

thank you to baby cubby to their support in helping make my shopping experience amazing! you can read a little bit more about what they are passionate about and why they do what they do on their about us page here - HERE

starting a blog + JORD giveaway

one of the biggest questions I get about blogging runs along the lines of..
"where do I start?"
"how do I make time for it?"
I've been wanting to write this post forever because it seems like this is a question I get once a week.. and hopefully I can give you the answers you want to hear without bombarding you with useless information.

for me it has become one of my favorite things to do.. its the time I make for myself and the time I spend doing something I really enjoy. the day blogging becomes a headache and not fun for me might be the day I am done. sure there have been lapses in posts here and there.  life gets busy and sometimes the blog isn't the priority.  but I love writing and I absolutely love sharing our life.. partly because I know when I have something in question I go blog hunting, and being a resource even for just ONE person about whatever makes my time here worth it, for sure.  but mostly because I want to look back at this time and remember crazy life with my three girls.  or look back at the time when we had no kids.. and what the heck we did with ourselves everyday (?!!).
trips we take.
weekends we share with family.
I've got nearly 10 years into this little corner of web space and I can only imagine where life goes from here- but I've surely documented where we have come from.
when thinking about where to start, I understand the overwhelming pressure in deciding what you want to share on your new blog.  when I started my blog years back I had no idea where I was going with it, just kind of posted here and there with no real purpose or theme.  then I got into nutrition + food + cooking and thought to myself.. OMG I should totally write about food!  I'm a genius.
until I googled 'food blog' and about one million blogs popped up.
its hilarious to look back on my mindset at the time- at 22 years old.  but I was devastated!
the blogging world is saturated with stuff.  so, trying to write about what you think others want you to write about is pointless.  I blogged for a solid 4-5 years before really finding myself in this world of the www.
when blogging finally clicked for me was when I was pregnant with twins.  I was scouring the internet trying to find anything about twins/multiples/pregnancy.. survival! and wasn't having the greatest luck at all.
which prompted me to write about it myself.
..and then I pinned my own blog post.
good old self promotion right there.. and nothing wrong with it.
traffic picked up to my blog and before I knew it, I found myself writing on a regular basis about my life as a twin mom and all the experiences that inadvertently go along with it.
and totally loving it.
that being said, when thinking about starting a blog, taking a leap to put yourself out there, do it for you.  find your niche.  share what you are good at! I share about things that are near and dear to my heart and it so happens that some of you like what you are reading and come back:)  you will probably never see a DIY project on this blog because, well.. I suck at DIY.
I can throw a mean birthday party or write a yummy recipe for my family.
but, I leave the handy work to the professionals:)

..but Jordan has been pinning bird houses to my 'summer projects' pinterest board the last couple days, so, ummm.. there might be a project in our future. which means JORDAN is the professional in this case and definitely NOT me.
I try to blog about 4-5 days a week.  I consider 4 days to be great and consistent in creating and sharing content.  being more regular keeps my readership up and engaged.  coming back for more if by chance there is a new post live on the blog.  I can alway tell the reason when my analytics are down- I haven't been as consistent or posting less.  that engagement is so important when you are looking to partner with larger (and small, too!) brands!
thats another beast and for a separate post that I promise I will share soon!

I've been really really blessed with some fun partnerships through this blogging journey.  small businesses are my absolute favorite and while some have started small, I have watched them explode in popularity and exposure over the years.  recently I was approached by JORD watches and while I had seen the wood watch trend all over social media, I had no idea there were so many options! at first glance I didn't think they were much my style.. but I was terribly wrong! I have worn it everyday since I got it!  talk about a unique gift for the hubby or a fun splurge for yourself!
whats even better?? how about $75 towards any wood watch you like!
JORD has graciously offered one lucky reader the chance to win.
wait.  its gets better!!
everyone that enters gets $20 towards any wood watch purchase
which means everyone is a winner:)
the details: the contest will close 6/29 at 11:59pmthe winner's $75 coupon code will expire 7/29 and the "losers" $20 coupon code will expire 10/29.
GOOD LUCK, friends!

saving face with rodan + fields | a review + giveaway

let me take you back about 60 days ago. after sharing a posts about my favorite beauty products at the moment I received the sweetest email from Amy.  yes I had heard of rodan + fields and had actually tried the product once about 2 years ago.. I wasnt given much guidance when using that product and I didn't get results I was looking for, so the investment into that product wasnt worth it to me at the time.  I shared my experience with Amy, and she understood my hesitations.
I was completely transparent- I didn't want yet another disappointing experience with another skin care product.

because, ya'll.  I have tried everything.
EVERYTHING.

the moment I agreed to given r+f a try (again) I started to dread.. really DREAD sharing this post.  how was I supposed to know the possible results? not to mention that putting myself, my scars, and my splotchy skin out there for all of you all to see was at the top of my anxiety list.

after 30 days I could see a difference.  well, actually.  after just a couple weeks I could tell a difference in the texture of my skin.  I have really dry and flaky skin- but exfoliating with scrubs often are too harsh.  its the most annoying catch 22 ever. but the exfoliating wash I used in combination with the night cream really changed that for me.  it allowed me to consistently lose that dead layer of skin rather than letting it sit there until it started to flake.
gross.
what did I use?
Reverse Regimen
AMP MD roller
REDEFINE overnight cream

So.. lets start from the beginning.
The Reverse Regimen was best fit for my skin type and the results I was seeking.  while I do still struggle with some adult breakouts, the reduction of my scars and dark spots was at the top of my wishlist. and honestly my adult acne wasnt terrible enough to need the strength of the unblemish line r+f offers.
Reverse is made up of four steps:
-Deep Exfoliating Wash
-Intensive Brightening Toner
-Dual Active Brightening Complex (a retinol formula and a vitamin C formula)
-Broad Spectrum Sunscreen with SPF 50+
the claims to fame?
Reverse helps erase the appearance of premature aging, including brown spots, dullness, and discolorations.  it will brighten skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and defend against sun exposure for a radiant complexion!

in addition to this 4 step reverse regimen I started using the AMP roller.  at first glance/use of this thing I was super skeptical because- how can that really work?  what is it supposed to do exactly??
well!  I am so glad you asked!  (ha!)
the AMP MD Roller utilizes micro-exfoliation technology for visibly advanced skin-firming benefits. when I combined its use with the REVERSE Regimen, my REVERSE results were accelerated while also promoting a firmer-looking complexion.  the best part about it?  for me anyway.. the AMP Roller was so helpful in reducing the appearance of my scarring.
one extra step!
after talking about my skin type and tendencies.. and after completing the skin care consultation, Amy recommended that I use the REDEFINE Overnight Restorative Cream in addition to the Reverse. since I have such dry skin, this was the best way for me to maintain moisture.  it is an ultra-hydrating cream which replenishes skin’s natural moisturizing factors while you sleep for visibly firmer, less-lined skin in the morning. the moisture recycling complex of hyaluronic acid and glycerin prevent moisture loss while 12-hour, time-released antioxidants A, C and E replenish vital skin nutrients.

to be completely honest.. there were even some nights that I went to sleep with a dirty face and skipped the second half of my skin care regimen and STILL saw these results.  I'm so lazy about washing my face, but after seeing the results it motivated me to keep up with it!

more company details..
rodan+fields is not a “one product fits all” shop…everyone’s skin is NOT the same! This is why Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields have created several different lines of skincare, and finding the one that is best, specifically for you in the key.
All regimens/products are a 2 month supply when used 2x each day.
Every purchase comes with an incredible empty bottle, 60 day, money-back guarantee.
want to learn more?? I am hardly a sales person.. and try to keep this blog as transparent as possible, and that being said- I believe in this product and after using a million different things on my face I have fallen in love with a regimen that I can actually attest to working as it claims!

giveaway time!

Amy is so graciously offering to any of my readers who complete the skin care consultation (and emails it to themselves) will be entered to win a jar of the Redefine Multi-Function Eye Cream (a $60 value)!  You can access the solution tool HERE
view Amy's website HERE or contact her through email HERE to learn more about how she can help you get the best regimen your skin needs.

I went out to run errands without and ounce of makeup on for the first time in YEARS.
maybe even EVER.
worth it enough for me.. how about you?

tiny moments | aveeno skin care for baby

Baker's evening routine has quickly become my most favorite part of the day.  she's an absolute riot in the bath- splashing like a crazy person and flopping like a fish out of water as she lunges from one side of the tub to the other.  she has such contentment when she's in a warm bath, playing with her toys and exploring the water pouring out from the spout.
these are the rare, tiny moments I have with my little girl- one on one.  I cannot get enough of her demeanor and patience with me as I soak up this time in the evenings with just her.
time with all three of my girls is absolutely amazing.  chaotic.  hilarious.
but one on one time with miss Baker Bree is so special.

since the twins were born, we have run the gamut of body care products for baby- Parker had a terrible time with her sensitive + dry skin and we tried just about everything.  thankfully she's mostly grown out of all that, but Jordan has pretty sensitive skin himself, so a strict skin care routine is nothing new to us.  when Baker was born, I was concerned about using products that would irritate her skin like I'd experienced with Parker in the past.  it wasn't long before we noticed Baker's skin being sensitive to everything from body wash and lotion to diapers and wipes!  we started Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo when she was just weeks old and it showed visible results and what seemed like immediate relief.  she hasn't had to have an oatmeal bath in a while, but we are still pretty mindful of what we expose her skin to. my favorite part about a post bath Baker Bree is the way her baby skin feels after covering her from head to toe in yummy lotion

after bath-time fun, lotion, and pajamas we are finally ready for bed.
immediately after I lay her down for the night I want to scoop her right back up for more snuggles.  having spent the last hour of our day together having just the sweetest time, I don't want it to end!

the moments of pride.
the moments of chaos.
the moments of frustration.
the moments of sweetness.
the moments of outstanding love for my three girls.

tiny moments that make up this mama life.

making a transition | Munchkin LATCH

Becoming a mom is an exciting and wonderful experience, but sometimes it can be a little overwhelming, especially in situations you never expected- something for new mama's to make note of.. things rarely go as planned:)
I mentioned in Baker's 9 months update that we had recently transitioned into supplementing with formula.  when she was cutting her bottom teeth back in between 7-8 months she went through a nursing strike (terrible!) and would nurse for just a short time and then be done- which really hurt my supply.  and then it gradually decreased as the weeks went on.  sure, I could have done things to increase my supply.  I could have pumped after every time she nursed.  added in another session before going to bed at night.
drink special tea.
lactation cookies.
supplements..
but then again I have toddlers that rule to roost when they know I'm strapped to the pump and take advantage of those 20 minutes to completely wreak havoc.  the stinky horse pills linger for hours after taking them and if the tea was actually coffee you might have made me a believer.
since Baker hit 9 months old we have been in the midst of a massive growth spurt - even drinking seven or eight ounces in a bottle at a time.. much more than her usual 6 ounces and this mama just cant keep up.
I was fine with Baker getting a bottle or two while I was away at work or running errands, but getting a bottle for almost every single meal time during the day was giving me anxiety.  how would that transition go?  I wanted there to be a solution for she and I to be able to continue our nursing sessions for as long as I am able to provide and she wishes to accept it- even if its mostly just first thing in the morning and before she goes to bed at night.  I'm still pumping a couple times a day, but for the most part Baker takes 3-4 bottles of breastmilk + formula and I exclusively nurse her in the morning and before she goes to bed.

we've more or less used the same bottles between Baker and the twins- trying out a few new ones along the way, but I was recently introduced to the LATCH bottle, and it couldn't have come at a better time!  while other bottles were designed to look like the breast, the patent-pending accordion nipple of the LATCH bottle was designed to not only look like the breast, but act like the breast, too! the LATCH nipple stretches, moves and pumps just like the breast.. I am seriously impressed by the flexibility and how realistic this nipple is.  because of the amazing shape and design of this bottle, the LATCH lets me provide as well as I can for Baker, but also have confidence that offering her a bottle to supplement for over half of her meal times throughout the day isn't going to break the bond that we share during those quiet moments together.  taking care of a baby often means there’s less time for taking care of myself - I don't even want to know how many hours I've spent with the pump.  but thankfully, me time just got a little bit easier with the MunchkinLATCH Bottles. their products are designed to allow moms like me to easily and comfortably transition between breast and bottle - completely relieving the stress of all that comes with it.

while I do appreciate any me time I can get, being a mama to my three girls is the greatest gift I have ever been given.
I can only describe motherhood as the ultimate act of unconditional love.  I am challenged and pushed to my upmost limit every single day…I am the woman that I am and the woman that I want to become because I am a mother. motherhood kicks my butt, keeps me humble and gives me the greatest sense of accomplishment and peace compared to anything else I've ever done in my entire life- and I don’t remember what life was like before these little girls that consume my world.

the truth is, none of us are perfect and we shouldn't aspire to be.  we are so hard on ourselves with such high expectations that we think we should abide by.  I am by no means perfect, but I am their first teacher and it is my responsibility to teach these young girls how to be a lady just by the way I carry myself through life, teaching compassion and empathy along the way.
life is absolutely, one hundred and fifty percent crazy- but the beauty of it all, the beauty of motherhood, is something I would never ever trade.
BIG thank you to b faith photography for snapping these photos and to Munchkin for their sponsorship of this post.
All opinions expressed are my own.

bubble bath fun with the first years disney baby

bath time.  one of our favorite parts of the day.  I cant even mention the word b a t h without Parker stripping to her bare bottom and hi-tailing it onto the empty tub.  when we had the opportunity to play with some new bath toys from the first years the girls were PUMPED!
I'm quite sure the big girls drank way too much bathwater tea playing with the Minnie Mouse bath tea set.  I mean, over and over and over.. they even let Baker get in on that bath time beverage.
Jolie kept saying "its time for TEEE kah-kerr (Parker)!"
Baker spent most of her time with the squirt toys- I mentioned in her 8 month update that she's a big fan of these and when it was all said and done we loaded up the toys to drip dry in the Minnie Mouse bath scoop and storage.

but of course there were bubbles. lots and lots of them.
thank you to the first years for sponsoring this post and to the talented Brittany for snapping these fun pictures of my sweet girls.
so thankful for you, girlfriend!!
