Baby Registry Must Haves | 3 Month Favorites

m u s t haves.  Theres a phrase we all want to hear.  What in the world are your must haves for baby??  I was completely lost when I registered for the first time around, and after having the girls and actually learning what I liked and disliked and what worked for us, this second time around was much easier to figure out what I knew I needed.
The must haves, if you will.
This list is definitely limited + a few repeats, as I am basically including what I've gotten of greatest use out of in Baker's 3 months of life thus far.
Nail clippers terrify me - especially after listening to the nurse in our birthing class talk about risk and infections and I still to this day have not clipped Parker and Jolie's nails!  We use a nail file instead:) Saves me the heartache of clipping their teeny fingers.. After reading about this product on another blog I was convinced that I needed it, and honestly I LOVE this thing!
When we were registering for the twins we saw a display in the middle of buy buy baby of about 300 nose frida's.  One glimpse at the words 'snot sucker' and we were saying NO WAY.  Never.  Nuh-Ugh.  Okay.  Truth.  We caved when the twins were about 3 months old and I bought it off amazon at 3am when Parker hadn't slept the entire night because she was congested with her first runny nose.  I promise, hands down one of the most genius inventions ever. Trust me.  You will be so glad you bought this!
Soothing Teether (Ridgees + Coolees)
My babies start their teething early!  Parker and Jolie started the while drooling + fist chewing around 4 months and Baker has already started the thrashing while she nurses and wincing in pain when she chews her hands.  Teethers are great to have on hand because you never know when you need to bring them out.
I am a huge fan of Carter's during this stage of life - I loved that brand and the way it fit the twins up until they were probably 15 months old.  Having a teeny baby again reminded me of what an awesome brand it is -- they have no idea who I am:)  That being said- Old Navy has become another newborn favorite as far as having something for Baker to sleep and play in (hence the name, right??)  The floral patterns have me purchasing these one pieces in every single size, and not to mention how perfect the color block ones are, too!  Fit and style - the best of both.  Oh..and.. long live zipper sleepers.
This particular bottle is designed to grow with your baby and to be used with or without the vent system, not to mention a vent system with much fewer parts than the original bottles by Dr. Brown's.  Just what I was looking for - a bottle with little assembly required, but with promises that it won't exacerbate any gassy issues (as well as any issues of colic + spit-up).  Once she is older and past the slower-paced feedings (and hopefully has grown out of sucking in too much air when she eats) I have the option (get it?) of using the bottle without the vent and using the paced nipple flow alone.  using the Dr. Brown's Dishwashing Basket makes dishwashing the loose parts of the options bottle easy peasy, too!
These are a little more expensive than the more popular milk storage bags, but I think they are worth it.  Have you ever heard the phrase - no use crying over spilt milk? OBVIOUSLY whoever said that never spilt their breastmilk.  These are a little more sturdy and will stand on their own- making them less likely to tip over.
We never used a bottle warmer with the twins and after 12 months of warming water in two huge cups for 3 minutes in the microwave only to set the bottles into for another 5 minutes, we said over and over again we would definitely splurge on a bottle warmer for the next one.  I actually have somehow ended up with a couple warmers and Dr. Brown's is by far my favorite.  It is 100% digital and comes with an easy warming chart based on your bottle type (glass or plastic) and the amount of milk/formula you have in the bottle.  You also don't have to use Dr. Brown's specific bottles - it is made to fit many varieties, which is a plus.  Set the timer for your recommend warming time and the bottle comes out to optimal temperature.   Warm enough to mimic coming from the breast.  We use it often and it's going to be really handy when Baker takes a bottle a few times a day while I am at work - so easy for her daddy and BB to use!  Thats the very best part about it - how easy it is to use.
I once purchased disposable pads in bulk on amazon (thank you, prime) and quickly realized my mistake.  I still suffer from the 'extra fluid' here and there and having these washable pads makes it easy to keep it under control.  Yes.  I still have 251 disposable nursing pads sitting in the bottom of my closet.
..because holy free hands, baby wearing is amazing. As I sit here and type out this post remembering the long day before of cluster feeds and cranky babies (x3) I have Baker wrapped to my chest sleeping soundly.  I also made dinner, bathed, and put the girls to bed all whilst wearing her.  Grocery shopping, strolling the mall, going for walks around the neighborhood- she loves it and I love it.  I wish I would have worn the twins- but I am so thankful for it now!
These are our favorite pacifiers.  They are small enough to stay put in Baker's mouth and not to mention the 'air channel' that collapsed to the roof of her mouth reducing pressure on her palate.   You need these for every surface of your house - just to keep them well enough on hand.
Nursing Pillow + Pillow Cover - Dr. Brown's Gia + Cover
This go-round with a singleton I have gotten great use out of these nursing pillows!  I keep one in the bedroom and one in the living room so I don't have to move one from room to room.  The Dr. Brown's nursing pillow is designed to put the baby at an angle while nursing to help with digestion.  Anything to assist with my baby girl's tummy, especially when nursing at night.
Floor (box) Fan
Yes, yes, yes, we have the sound machines, but the greatest form of white noise would have to be the box floor fan.
I keep these in a few places: my diaper bag, the kitchen, and in my pump bag.  While the label says 'pacifier and bottle wipes' I also use these for a quick wipe clean of my breast pump parts.
A MUST have!  This lounger is semi-elevated for easing a baby's tummy after nursing at night, and a huge plus is that its affordable comparative to other options on the market. Even better is that it folds up and travels super easily.  During the early weeks we brought it almost everywhere we went!
Baby Jogger City Select (with second seat)
We LOVE this stroller.  I wouldn't change a thing about it, except maybe the price. But, it is definitely worth the investment.  The City Select itself is in fact a single rider stroller that can manipulated to being a double stroller with the addition of parts.  When we were buying/registering for the stroller and all the parts, we went ahead and got the second seat so we wouldn't have to worry with buying it later.  The second seat comes with the mounting brackets, so we didn't have to purchase those separate since we registered (and received it).  You could definitely skip the second seat and get the brackets separate to save a little money.  Either way you do it, you'll need the brackets for the car seat adapters. Now that I have a third babe, I still use the second seat here and there, but I will say that pushing one baby is much easier than two!
When the twins grew out of the Pampers Swaddlers, we tried the Cruisers and hated them.  They just didn't fit right.  We decided on a whim to take up the advice of all my mama friends and try the Target brand diapers - Up+Up. I had never tried anything 'store brand' regarding my babes and definitely had low expectations.  Jordan was PUMPED when I told him how many diapers there were in a box for just $28 vs. what we were spending at Sams on Pampers.  We LOVE them and still actually us them for the twins at nighttime.  When Baker was born, we came home from the hospital with Pampers and planned to eventually move into the Target brand because they are WAY cheaper.  UNTIL the little miss started having a weird reaction to the Pampers (pretty severe redness and irritation wherever the diaper touches).  After being gifted a sleeve of honest diapers  to try out before we started a subscription because they are a little more pricey than what we are used to spending, we were convinced that they were the best choice for Baker (the rash and irritation is gone since we started using them).  So it is worth the extra expense to our family right now.  As far as wipes go- we use the honest brand wipes and love their quilted texture.

I am SO excited to be partnering with Dr. Brown's for a fun giveaway to one of my lucky readers/followers!  We would love to fulfill your Dr. Brown's must have registry items!

two month favorites

Baker hit 10 weeks old on Saturday and I just cant get over how quickly time is flying.  If at all possible- this mama thing for the second time around (because P+J are sort of a unit in that aspect..right?) is more fleeting than the first time around.  Part of me is dying inside because of that and the other part is eager to see how our sweet littlest sister grows up next to Parker and Jolie. She is growing like a weed thats for sure and heres a short list of things we've used on repeat over this last month:)

Boon Grass Drying Rack
A bottle drying rack isn't usually at the top of your baby purchases, but after going through a couple of the $10 spinning racks with the twins I wanted to try something different this time.  This simple drying rack makes it easy to organize the smaller accessories to my breast pump as well as bottles and nipples.  We actually have the lawn version (a little bigger) so that we can also use it for the twins' sippy cups, lids, and straws.  I like it because even though it seems like discretion is impossible when you have 843 bottles and parts lining your countertops, this is pretty low profile compared to the tower-o-bottles.  I like the way it looks and it holds quite a bit!

Dr. Brown's Bottle Warmer

Old Navy Sleepers
I am a huge fan of Carter's during this stage of life - I loved that brand and the way it fit the twins up until they were probably 15 months old.  Having a newborn again reminded me of what an awesome brand it is -- they have no idea who I am:)  That being said- Old Navy has become another newborn favorite as far as having something for Baker to sleep and play in (hence the name, right??)  The floral patterns have me purchasing these one pieces in every single size, and not to mention how perfect the color block ones are, too!  Fit and style - the best of both.

The Wonder Weeks  // the app
Thankfully Baker is pretty even keeled and laid back- aside from sitting in her carseat she doesn't fuss or rumble a ton.  There have been a handful of days that I feel like she's insatiable and just wants to nurse for every moment I'm near out of comfort and not even because she's hungry.  Obviously I know that in this stage of development babies are always evolving and a growth spurt seemed just around the corner because surely she is extra fussy because XYZ.  We all just want a for sure answer to that question.  Ashley shared an app she had been using and holy mackerel..within moments of downloading it I devoured every word.  It described verbatim what I was going through with Baker and it made SO much sense.  The app is based on a book sharing the same title (which I have not purchased) and describes 10 developmental growth spurts known as "The Wonder Weeks".  These are different from physical growth spurts - but the timing coincides on occasion.  During these weeks your babe is putting energy into learning new skills, and her brain is growing and changing more than it ever will again in their rest of their life which often results in the same fussiness, clinginess, and change in eating patterns that can happen with a physical growth spurt.  Probably the best and most informative app I have ever used - it has been fun to share it with other mama friends and compare where our babies are and have been.

Hanging Toys
According to my Wonder Weeks app (really its that good) after this last completed 'leap' Baker is able to flap/feel toys and focus more intently on those that are close to her face.  Baker is starting to interact and make explosive sounds as a reaction to her daddy, me, or her crazy sisters!  These hanging toys keep her occupied while in the swing, carseat, and doing tummy time.  Her favorite and the one she seems to hold to strongest interest in has to be this elephant we have hanging from her carseat- I love hearing the sweetest coos coming from the back seat when she's made 'eye contact' with her new little bestie.

Nyme Organics
I was introduced to Nyme Organics about a month ago when owner and creator, Lauren reached out. We've been doing some trial and error with soaps, lotions, and detergents because Baker's skin seems to react with things that don't typically seem very harsh.  A few weeks ago Jordan threw a t-shirt in the wash with Baker's clothing and although we washed it Dreft, Jordan's shirt had previously been washed in Tide.  It was like that entire load had been contaminated and Baker broke out into a terrible rash after I put a sleeper on her that had been washed recently.  We have even changed the diapers we use- the tried and true Pampers cause redness anywhere the diaper touches.  Parker had these same issues and has since grown out of it, so I hope and assume that Baker will do the same.  Until then we are keeping the rashes and redness at bay by using the most gentle products we can find.  Nyme has an entire line of all natural and organic products..and we especially love the Oatmeal Cookie Bath.  Just about 20 minutes using their blend of oats, marshmallow root, calendula, and chamomile calms Baker's skin almost immediately.  I use their oatmeal bath about once a week as a preventative and more as needed if we run into anything thats irritated her skin.  It has been a serious 'life saver' for that sweet girl.  Head over to Instagram for a fun giveaway with NYME and your chance to win a Newborn Bundle Pack:)

Other baby things..
We are still using everything I mentioned in the Postpartum Favorites Post, but most of all loving my favorite swaddle blankets, these comfy onesies, and the amazing solly wrap .  While I often use the solly wrap when carrying Baker, I have really enjoyed using the City Select stroller with the carseat adapter and without the second seat.  Thats a first!  Can I say that I LOVE my stroller with just one seat - ha!  It is literally so light and easy to maneuver versus the weight of two.  Parker and Jolie do really well with holding my hand and staying close, so using the stroller for just one has been pretty convenient.

Of course this list doesn't include the hundreds of diapers + wipes we've gone through:)
As always- I'm up for suggestions!

Preschool Favorites + Meet the Teacher

Parker and Jolie are just days away from embarking on the next big milestone in their two and a half years of life..
p r e s c h o o l.
They have never been in any kind of program outside of the home aside from Sunday morning kids church and right now would be the perfect transition to getting them into some sort of structure after their world has more or less been turned upside down with the introduction of Baker into the family.
I am SO excited for them to be starting this 'new adventure'.. even if its just two days a week.  I have been preparing them and myself (physically and mentally) for their first day and have rounded up a few of my favorite preschool things.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 //
These Itzy Ritzy wet bags have been a favorite this summer- we have one in our pool bag for wet bathing suits and one in my diaper bag just in case theres a baby blow out.  I put one of these filled with a change of clothes and extra panties in each of P+J's backpacks // I was first introduced to these smart planet silicone lunch boxes via Jen and after reading her recommendation of them, I placed a quick order on Amazon (less than $15/each) to see what I thought.  When they arrived a few days later I fell in love.  So easy to use and perfect size compartments for Parker and Jolie's lunch.  As badly as I wanted to try these fun lunch boxes out, I couldn't bring myself to spend that much on not just one, but two lunch boxes // Our preschool program still encourages nap time for the older 2 year old class and I liked this mat because it has a larger blanket and a pillow all wrapped into one mat // nothing is cuter than these backpacks.  They were on the twins' christmas wishlist and have been patiently awaiting their use for this fall // We've used these labels since the twins were born (got them as a baby shower gift) and LOVE them.  We started using them on their bottles and then transferred them to their sippy cups once they got older.  These labels are dishwasher friendly, and after 2.5 years of wear and tear, they are still in excellent condition - not even so much as a fade in color.  I also got a few of these monogram adhesive labels for other items that need tags as well.
--
Last night was 'meet the teacher' at our preschool and as stressful as it could have been - it wasn't at all once we arrived.  I was more stressed out because I wasn't exactly sure what to expect at all. Parker and Jolie's teachers are absolutely darling and the girls walked right into the classroom (Farm Friends), shook their hands and sat down to start playing like they owned the place.  We got to meet a few of the other parents as well - this year is going to so much fun!

School starts next Tuesday at 9am.
..I also signed up to be 'room mom'.
This is happening:)

Postpartum Favorites | Baby

Since the last time I was dealing with a couple of newborns I have come across some amazing brands, products, and the sweetest baby things that have me thinking "where were you two and a half years ago?"  Looking back I realized that there was not enough research I could have done to prepare me for motherhood.  BUT - the most invaluable information and recommendations came from other mama friends - and hopefully one or two of you might find this helpful.  I still cannot believe we are 5-ish weeks into having Baker in our lives, but I suppose time truly flies when you are living your life in three-hour increments!
Postpartum Favorites
B A B Y
1. graco little lounger // when the twins were born we bought a pack and play and set it up in our room for them to co-sleep and it worked well for what we needed it for.  We planned to do the same for Baker and for her first couple nights she slept in the pack and play.  On the Saturday after coming home from the hospital we planned to run the errands we had hoped to accomplish the day I went into labor.  We were browsing the baby aisles (at Target) and Jordan walked upon the display of a million and one options for a sleeping baby.  I had mentioned early in my pregnancy that I wanted to get a bassinet for Baker and he quickly told me 'no' and later I learned, and then laughed, that he was thinking of a traditional bassinet .  Looking at all the options he was super intrigued and we ended up going home with the graco little lounger.  While I cannot say that this one is better than another, because I never used one like this with the twins, I really like it!  It seems to be comfortable for her, semi-elevated for easing her tummy after nursing at night, and a huge plus is that its affordable comparative to other options on the market.
2. just born deluxe swaddle //  this swaddle was recommended to me by my pediatrician after I told her that I woke one early morning to Baker being on her side (???).  The little thing wiggled herself in such a way that she was sleeping on her side instead of on her back.  This swaddle has a 'cradle pad' that promotes back sleep and basically encourages her to stay put during the night.  My Houdini baby always finds a way to get her arms out- and this swaddle has the option for both arms-in and arms-out swaddling. I was so glad to be introduced to this product!
3. little unicorn swaddle blankets //  cotton muslin blankets are a favorite in this house- especially these ones.  They are the softest and most comfortable blankets we own.  We use them for swaddling her during those newborn catnaps throughout the day, but also as a nursing cover, carseat cover, and carrying them around the house as a place for Baker to lay.  Not to mention that Little Unicorn has the most adorable prints, ever.  I took a couple in my hospital bag and got several compliments on them from doctors, nurses, and guests.
4. mustela hair & body wash + lotion // I talked about our first try of mustela HERE when Baker had her first bathtime experience.  She cried the entire time but I am happy to report that her bath taking has become much less of a screamfest and more enjoyable on her end.  We are still using the Mustela and really love it!  Her baby skin remains moisturized until her next bath time - and not to mention how yummy she smells.  In the early months we had a heck of a time trying to find out what exactly we could use on Parker's sensitive skin (Jolie has used several soaps and lotions and nothing seems to irritate), so I'm always a little hesitant to try new products, but mustela has proven to be all that it say it is:)
5. solly wrap // where have you been all my motherhood life?  I say this as more of a statement, because holy free hands, baby wearing is amazing. As I sit here and type out this post remembering the long day before of cluster feeds and cranky babies (x3) I have Baker wrapped to my chest sleeping soundly.  I also made dinner, bathed, and put the girls to bed all whilst wearing her.  I borrowed the Moby wrap from a family member after the twins were born, but the fabric was thick and I couldn't get a tight enough wrap - or at a least I didn't feel like I could - with their small size.  By the time they were big enough to be worn correctly I sort of felt like I missed that window because they hated it.  Not this time.  I was determined because I knew I needed more hands to manage Parker and Jolie.  I also appreciate that the fabric is stretchy and lightweight for the summer months here in the south.
6. cloud b on the go travel sound machine // we have this machine for her nursery, but have been using the travel sound maker while she is in our room.  Its easy to tote around with us in the car and around the house as we need it.  While Parker and Jolie love ( and still love) the white noise, Baker is a big fan of the music sounds.  She loves her a lullaby.
7. nursing pillow // I have the boppy as well as dr. brown's gia nursing pillow  // my only experience with a nursing pillow has been with the gigantic My Breast Friend Twin nursing pillow.  The thing has clips to make sure it stays put.  I received a boppy pillow as a gift while I was pregnant but never used it because I always fed Parker and Jolie at the same time. I use them interchangeably and often will prop Baker on the traditional boppy pillow while I am nearby.
8. golden hill onesies -- for summer babies these are uber soft, light and breathable.  We have been living in them! These are super stylish for my teeny babe and the prints are pure perfection.  I am not ashamed to mention that I have nearly every print these hip mama's offer in their shop.  Darci and Becca started their small business from scratch with the girl mom in mind.  For the cooler weather months approaching (yippee!) these would be awesome as layering pieces - under cardigans and sweaters for a smooth non-bulky look.  I wish these onesies were around 2.5 years ago for Parker and Jolie to wear.  Stay tuned for a fun giveaway with golden hill!  I am excited to be partnering up with them and sharing some of their goodies with you!

Other baby things..
My favorite iphone app // baby connect (activity logger).  I used this app with the twins and brought it back to life again when Baker was born.  I mainly use it for tracking her last feedings and diapers but you can record naps, milestones, pumping, your baby’s mood, and temperature, etc.  I am surely not using the app up to its capacity, but appreciate all that it has to offer.

What about you?  Any newborn favorites you just can live without during those early weeks?

Postpartum Favorites | Mama

I am approaching 6 whole weeks since Baker was born and I have survived (almost) yet again with a newborn.
But.. not without a few of my postpartum pregnancy essentials.
Postpartum Favorites
M A M A
1. seamless hipster panties
They are the softest panties I have ever worn with just enough stretch to make me feel comfortable in my postpartum body.  I am still opting for the full coverage panty *just in case* and these are seamless, making for a smooth look under my clothes.
2. benefit ooh la lift
I'm tired.  Really tired.  It makes all the difference when I wash my face first thing in the morning and use a little of this highlighting cream under my eyes.. hiding those dark circles due to the 11pm-3am-7am nursing sessions.  It is perfect for giving my face the 'oomph' it needs even when I don't bother putting on a full face of makeup - which is happening pretty often these days.
3. lansinoh nursing pads
I never had to use these when I nursed the twins because I always tandem fed them.  I also never had the let-down sensation when I heard them crying.. all those things new mamas experience.  Not for me.  I didn't even buy any nursing pads before Baker's arrival to prepare.  Why would I need those??  Oh.  But I do.  This time around its like I have a whole new set of hormones running because all of the above is what I've got going on.  Thank you Amazon Prime for getting the bulk boxes of nursing pads in the mail to me in 2-days or less:)  I like the Lansinoh brand the best because they are cotton and absorb well.. and they don't stick.  You mamas know what I'm saying.
4. bravado! seamless nursing bra
I have talked all about this nursing bra before (HERE + HERE), and this one is another favorite of mine.. I've actually purchased a couple more of both so I have more on hand and don't have to do the laundry to make sure I have a clean bra.  They have by far been the most comfortable bra I have ever worn.  I have also been wearing my favorite bralettenot a technically nursing bra, it is stretchy enough to be BF'ing friendly and also really comfortable.
5. pure body tees + tanks
These tees and tanks have once again carried me through my entire pregnancy and into postpartum.  I have mentioned them about a million times in my past 'favorites' posts - both in my tin pregnancy and most recently with Baker, and here I am showing love again.  They are very stretchy and hold their shape, so it makes it easy for nursing.  I also layer the tanks under non-nursing friendly tops so I am not exposing my entire (postpartum) midsection when its time to feed Baker.
6. dr. brown's hand pump
I do have a large full function pump and have used it often, but I have started to use this hand pump here and there and really like it!  Baker has been sleeping longer hours during the night, which means I am f u l l in the early morning when my milk production peaks (between 4am-7am) and need to get the rest off for comfort after she has eaten an hardly made a dent.  It is easy to have sitting on my nightstand rather than pulling out my electric pump, untangling tubes and cords, all while making a ton of noise.  This is just easier and takes hardly a thought to use.  I also find it to be handy when we are going out without Baker and I need to pump while I'm away.  Much more convenient.. more on breastfeeding and pumping later:)
7. nipple balm
Baker and I have gotten the hang of breastfeeding now, at 5 weeks, but in the early weeks I was left pretty sore while we both were still learning.  My left side was definitely the worst and applying this (as well as breast milk) in between feedings helped tremendously. There's a bunch of different options on healing ointments, but this one I just ordered in my bundle with Honest prenatal vitamins and DHA.
8. silicone scar treatment sheets
For my fellow c-section mamas.  After my 2-week post op appointment I was given the go ahead by my OB to start applying treatment to my c-section scar.  I used the regular over the counter stuff after the twins, and it was just okay.  I stopped using it after about 6 months mainly out of laziness, but I honestly didn't see much change.  My OB was able to cut out my old scar, and so I have nothing residual showing, sort of like a 'fresh start' with hopes that I won't get lazy this time.  She mentioned silicone scar treatments, and I found this at CVS but I'm sure Walgreens would have it, too.  The sheets cover right over my scar and you are able to wear them for up to 7 days (according to the box), but I usually change it out every day and use Mederma PM Cream at night.
9. water bottle -- 32 ounce everyday water bottle
Hydration is just as important postpartum as it is while pregnant- especially when breastfeeding!  I usually tote this 32 ounce water bottle around all day - refilling it at least 4 times.  If I don't I totally wake up feeling like I have a hangover.  Nursing is serious business and takes a lot more out of you than you might realize.. I learned the hard way and dealt with a headache for basically the first 2 weeks postpartum.

Hopefully this is helpful!  I'll be back tomorrow with my postpartum favorites for Miss Baker:)  XO!

Pregnancy Favorites | 3rd Trimester

Although it is a little premature to be wrapping up this last trimester already - because I still have some time to go.. and this just might jinx me into labor, b u t I wanted to share my 3rd trimester favorites.  Being pregnant in the summer has its pros and cons as does being pregnant in the winter months.  We have been spending a ton of time outdoors, so being comfortable in my skin and with this exponentially growing belly was important to me- especially in these last few weeks!

1 // tarte contour palette
I have NO idea how to contour.  None.  Zero.  But, somehow I was talked into the purchase of this palette and then had to figure out how to use it after the fact.  I went to searching Kate's blog for tips and found couple of youtube videos that seemed helpful and liked this article the best, but still I am at a loss with what exactly contouring is. What I do know is that the highlighter of this palette brightens the darkness around my eye area and cheekbones, as well as hide the 'pregnancy mask' that I have seemed to develop this go round in pregnancy.  I am thinking that is related to the amount of freckles I typically have on my face in the summer as well as the amount of time we have spent outdoors in the sun.  Whatever the cause- using the highlighter + bronzer combo really can change my face without having to wear a ton of makeup in the first place - and to be honest, makeup is an after thought these days.  I would rather wear none at all then take the time to apply it:)
2 // 9 naturals sunscreen
Summertime is once again upon us along the summer heat, and while I appreciate it laying by the pool, it brings on a slew of skincare woes - including that pregnancy mask I mentioned above. I know it’s important to protect myself from the sun and heat, but as an expecting mother, it's also important to protect my sweet growing babe from potentially harmful chemicals that are present in many skincare lines.  I recently had the opportunity to try Nine Naturals and really love it!  Nine Naturals is a line of 100% plant based hair and body care products specifically created with pregnant and new mothers in mind.  All Nine Naturals products are free of toxins including sulfates, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals and synthetic fragrances. This has been in my pool bag since the beginning of summer, and I have loved using it! I have also used it on Parker and Jolie - as it is gentle enough for their sensitive baby skin. Plus, plus?  It isn't stinky:)
3 // all about the comfy tee
This is totally a broken record, because h o w many times have I mentioned my love of the comfy tee- but now more than ever I am really appreciating it.  The entire gap pure body line is my favorite and has fit the growing bump well throughout this entire pregnancy.  I also have come to love a handful of tees I wore pre-pregnancy - but heres the thing, they still fit and are THE best.  All about the unisex fit tee!  Loved by Hannah and Eli, Ezra + Eli, and Hello Apparel are just a couple of my favorite 'small shop' brands. So - my pre pregnancy size small has worked well because I am not one to prefer the tight clothing post twin belly.
4 // summer polish
Because what is better to a pregnant woman's soul than a fresh pedi?  Essie and OPI are my typical go-to and while I am all about the warmer color tones, I love something bright and fun for summer.
5 // tums
hello, heartburn.  You have completely cramped my style these last couple months.  I have been popping Tums a couple times a day and they do the trick to hold back the burn.   I have noticed some relief since baby girl has dropped some, but I still keep them close by just in case.
6 // go with the flounce
I was standing in the bathing suit aisle at Target contemplating the purchase of a one-piece and another pregnant gal next to me was doing the same and she called me out to thank me for the handful of two piece suits I was holding in my hand.  Honestly, the one piece suit stresses me out because this bump is l a r g e and nearly impossible to cover up well enough.  So, to stay in the modest department, I prefer and have come to love the new trend of the flouncy top this summer. VS does it again with this top (I want it in every color!), this strappy flounce top is gorg for summer (and on sale), and while I love the pattern options, I'm afraid the extra weigh of the girls wont do well for this super cute top, but might work for others.  Either way - staying clear of the triangle top (thanks to my hand grabby toddlers) and thankful for the full coverage two-piece options.

What am I missing from this list?  I feel like this just about sums it up for me, of course in combination with the other favorites from my first and second trimester.

Packing for the Hospital | Baby Number 2

Technically baby number three, but this is my second delivery.. but that was just too much for a blog title, but you get the idea.  As I am approaching the end of my 35th week of this pregnancy, I guess I would say it might be a good idea for me to start thinking about what is going in my hospital bag.
Truth be told..I basically broke the internet searching for what in the world to pack in my hospital bag when preparing for the twins' birth. I scoured pinterest that led me to blogs that led me to making a list longer than you can imagine for what I was supposed to be packing.  But really, what else could I have done while laying in the bed for months leading up to our hospital stay..? I was a master list-maker from the thrones of bed-rest.. and I can promise that Jordan can attest to this.  Needless to say - I was overwhelmed and basically I over-packed.  I literally brought two bags for me (and the girls) and didn't even crack the zipper for the 5 days we were there.  I thought for sure I would be dressing the girls (and myself) while we were there.. which meant I needed 10 outfits between the two of them alone, and they never came out of the white tee shirts the hospital provided until the day we loaded them into the carseats for discharge.

I had a friend ask me recently if I wrote a blog post about packing for the hospital when I delivered Parker and Jolie, and the answer was a big fat N-O.  For my second delivery I decided to take what I learned the first time I packed a bag and put it to use this time.  The List is what I think will work for me based on what and how things when the last time I was post-partum

The Essentials | ONLY

  • Toiletries -- basically bring whatever makes you most comfortable for your post-baby stay.  For me it is shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, toothpaste, mini shower pouf, toothbrush, facewash, hair dryer.. you get the idea.  I was in the hospital for four nights and five days, and because I was in the hospital for a longer stay than typical, I brought my regular size bottles of toiletries.  I ended up only taking a shower twice while in the hospital - I wasn't in the best shape and moving around the first couple days was pretty painful (bed rest and abdominal surgery don't mesh well..)  but, after I did- I felt SO much better! You could probably stand to leave the hair dryer at home, but that's totally your preference.
  • Lip balm -- I mentioned my favorite balm in this post, but have also come to love the Honest Co. organic lip balm after receiving a sample it in my bundle of prenatal vitamins last month.  Hospitals tend to have dry air and I ended up sending Jordan out for some last time, so I am sure to pack it for this hospital stay.
  • Hairbrush + hair ties -- the topknot is my very best friend, so I want to make sure I've got something to hold my hair up - especially when me and the little miss are learning to nurse and of course it is a refreshing feeling to get  your hair off your neck.
For Mama
  • Support Binder/Abdominal binder/Belly Band -- whatever you call it, you will appreciate it after your baby is born.  My OB prescribed and provided one while I was in the hospital, but it is my understanding that not all docs will do that - so it might be something to ask about before heading to the hospital for delivery.  It helped to make it seem like not everything was going to 'fall out' the moment I put two feet on the ground to make the journey to the bathroom 4 steps away.
  • Stretchy, soft + comfy clothing -- The first day of my stay (D-Day) I was in no shape to get dressed.  It wasn't until day two that I was ready to be in my own clothing. I made sure to pack a couple of each item incase I needed to change due to a run in with teeny baby poop/pee or spit up.
    • Pants (2-4 pair): For my fellow C-section mamas, look for pants that you can wear higher or lower than your bikini line - yoga pants with the wide, fold-over waistband are great.  I have this pair and this pair in my bag ready and waiting to be worn.  Super soft and super stretchy.. and even though they are maternity, they are really perfect for postpartum wear.
    • Bras (2): Just say no to the underwire.  I stopped wearing underwire bras months ago.. and if you are planning to breastfeed you'll need to say bye-bye to that kinda support from now until the end.  I have packed two nursing bras - this one I have talked all about before (HERE), and this one is new and as pretty as a nursing bra can get:)  I also plan to wear my favorite bralette so I'll have it with me in case I need it.  While not a technical nursing bra, it is stretchy enough to be BF'ing friendly.
    • Tops (2-4): If you're planning on nursing, keep in mind ease of access for breastfeeding.  I wore these maternity tanks throughout my pregnancy with the twins, and they were fantastic for breastfeeding- they have great stretch and hold their shape very well.  I wore them as undershirts every time we went anywhere.  I've gotten a handful more for this pregnancy, and plan to wear them again postpartum for nursing.  Whatever you bring- make sure they are nursing friendly if you plan to breastfeed.
    • Sweater: Even in the middle of the summer, I plan to bring a light sweater or shawl.  You could even bring a robe if that's what you prefer - but not all three:)  I am cold-natured, and hospitals are notorious for freezing you out.  Also would be great to have something to cover up with while you are walking the halls.
  • Slippers-- You'll be up and moving around, walking your room, and the hospital hallways is important for recovery (and sanity).  I wore some slipper booties that I tossed in the trash before we went home.
For Baby
As bad as you want to, he/she doesn't need their own bag..
  • Beanie -- the hospital usually provides one, but I had some custom made for the twins and again for this little girl.  This is a total preference, but I just love these beanies for my teeny baby's heads.  I'm not usually one for a monogram, but they are just perfection.
  • Take Home Outfit -- I picked out something easy - just the sweetest little sleeper outfit (to match her beanie).  Since I'm not totally sure what size she'll need, I have packed both newborn and 0-3 months.  You could also do just a onesie and stretchy pants. Keep in mind that gowns aren't able to be used in the car seat - so leave those for home wear:)  Don't forget the socks to keep those teeny toes toasty!
Don't Forget
  • Camera & charger
  • Laptop/tablet/iPad & charger
  • Cell phone & charger
  • Any meds you're taking (talk to your doctor first, obviously) -- I have packed my prenatal vitamins and Omega-3's
  • Insurance card/ID/etc: --They'll ask for them in the mountain of paperwork you'll be signing at check in and check out.
  • Boppy or other nursing pillow (if you're breastfeeding) -- I didn't bring the My Breast Friend Twin Pillow or the Boppy the first go round, but really wished I had.  When I was first learning to breastfeed I would set up mountains of pillows around me - and it still didn't get both of us in the right position.  I definitely have this ready to go!
  • Car seat -- You don't need this until you're leaving, so it can just stay in the car. You can also bring your car seat cover - if that's something you have preference for.  Winter/Summer babies probably would appreciate the protection from the sun/cold.

Stuff You Think You Need, but Probably Don't

  • Underwear (other than what you wear in) -- I brought several pair of oversized cheap cotton panties that I planned to wear and toss, but, really the hospital provided mesh panties is the only way to go.  I didn't get into real panties until I got home.  I couldn't hurt to bring, but I can all but promise you wont be wearing them.
  • More than one newborn outfit -- Like I mentioned earlier, I way overpacked and brought outfits for the twins that they never wore.  The hospital gave use little t-shirts and swaddle blankets for your own use, so you really only need something for the trip home.  You better believe I'll have extra hairbows and such, but anything else I plan to leave at home.
  • Newborn care items -- The hospital gives you everything!  My hospital is 'baby friendly' and does not provide a pacifier, but everything else- you name it: diapers, wipes, snot sucker, blankets, whatever you can think of.  We went home with a TON of stuff, even a couple Halo braind swaddle sleep sacs (amazing).
  • Diaper bag -- you don't need any newborn care items, so you don't need a diaper bag.  As bad as you want to bring it (I did and didn't need it) just leave it behind. It will get its fair share of use.
  • Pads -- When I was packing my hospital bag for my stay with the twins, every single blog/site I landed on told me to bring pads. The hospital will give you some that are BIG enough and absorbent enough for what you need - you cant actually get those at the store:)  I'm telling you, mesh panties and giant hospital pads all the way.
  • Nipple cream/pads -- the hospital provided these. Parker and Jolie HATED the nipple cream and even if I had just a teeny bit they would scream their head off - so I have doubt I will use it this time at all..
  • Breast Pump -- I brought my own, but ended up using the hospital grade they provided during my stay, so I don't plan to bring it this time.  After nursing the twins I always pumped just so I could make sure I was telling my body I needed to make more for feeding two!
When I first sat down to write this post, the very thought stressed me out and made me a tad overwhelmed- but its not so bad.  Hopefully this is helpful- I am notorious for going back and reading my own blog posts for reference - and I am pretty sure this will be referenced a couple more times before little miss is here and again for the next babe (next babe?!)

I'm packed and ready!

Father's Day Gift Guide | 2015

Father's Day this year was relatively simple for me.  Jordan basically told me what he wished for.  He has made the comment on more than one occasion that he wishes for a 'dad bag'.  The Rockstar Dad in our house plays Mr. Mom often, and with that comes the carrying of toddler things (snacks, Barbies, sippy cups, books, extra panties..in case, you know..) and soon it will be the all too familiar, but so far away, baby things, too!  He wishes so badly not to have to carry the purple paisley print diaper bag that now remains home when Lily is toted around as my work bag.
Dad's special day is literally right around the corner, so I came up with a few additional + last minute ideas that might come of good use!  I was browsing and Jordan walked up behind me and started spouting off how much he liked the Yeti Rambler.. and that bluetooth speaker would be nice..and I always need a money clip.
These are officially Dad approved, ya'll.
Wall Mounted Bottle Opener (here + here) // Satchel Shoulder Bag (Daddy Diaper Bag)

I've mentioned the Dollar Shave Club more than once when talking about gift guides for my man here on the blog, but I cant help but to mention it again.  If you aren't a believer in how amazing it actually is.. let me assist.  I, myself, actually sneak use of his razors on occasion because, yes they are that good.  When I was updating this last month's box online I noticed they have hair products! After browsing the options, I decided that Jordan would make great use of the hair cream.. he is a very low maintenance kind of guy when it comes to his hair, so the low hold of the cream would be just perfect.  I went ahead and added it to next month's box just so he can try it out.
What else..
Jordan is always a huge fan of sports tickets- and this time of year his favs are a couple of seats at Globe Life Park to watch our Texas Rangers hit a few balls, so that would be a great option, too!  iTunes.  You can never go wrong with a gift card.  Jordan has more app purchases than anyone else I know. AND not to forget, a goodie bag of his favorite sweets + candy.  This guy has a major sweet tooth, and does well to keep it in check.  I have come to ignore the request texts that come through while I'm at the grocery for KitKat Minis and ice cream.  BUT, on a day to celebrate him, the perfect Father to our sweet girls - he deserves a splurge, don't you think?

Happy (almost) Father's Day!  What are you gifting this year??

Swim Favorites | Little Ladies

I have decided that toddler swimwear is at the top of my 'favorites' list since becoming a mom.  I mean- the sweetness that goes along with their cutie little booties in a bathing suit just kills it in overtime.  With the celebration of Memorial Day, you better believe we will be in the pool most of today.. that is if we don't get rained out for a bazillionth time this weekend alone.
THIS rain.
It is safe to say that us here in the South are searching the Memorial Day sale ads for anything remotely close to a great deal on an Ark.
Let me know if you see anything..
poolside sparkle bows / shelby chic boutique // aviator sunglasses / target // tankini suit / gap (sold out online)
flip top sippy cups / Nuby // sparkle bow poolside bag / shelby chic boutique
Most of my favorite retail shops for littles are having the best sales on this holiday weekend, which means all the more reason to stock up on toddler swimwear.  The suits Parker and Jolie have on in the poolside pictures are sold out online, and I actually haven't seen them in stores. I bought them 40% off a couple months ago in the excitement of summer's approach, and before the torrential rain began (we are literally going on 5 weeks straight..five.)
BabyGap and Old Navy do it right in the suit department.  I have found that this year's selection isn't as robust as last summer, but there are still some cute options, and the suits seem to run true to size.
We cant forget Nordy's half yearly sale.. and another fav- ZARA, while they hardly have a sale, they always have decently priced, high quality clothing.
Some of this year's swim favorites, and its no secret we love the pattern, and florals have been a hit this summer in more than just swim wear!
1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8
Parker's face says it all.  We took it upon ourselves to head to the pool the only day last week that it wasn't raining, pouring, tornado'ing, or wind shucking our patio furniture across the yards of the neighbors.  I have also decided that they forgot every single bit of fun we had in the pool last year because the whaling squeals coming from their little bodies were absolutely hilarious.
Sweet Jo Grace and her joy about EVERYthing is actually, well, everything.
Oh, and.. lets do a little dance in the fact that there will be no diapers involved in this year's swim outings.
 ..and we're dancing.
Happy Memorial Day holiday, friends!

Pregnancy Favorites | 2nd Trimester

28 weeks marked the start of my third trimester, and all I can think was when was the second? Second trimester flew by in what felt like a blink of an eye.  I cannot believe how quickly this pregnancy is going.. I am making the best of this short time I have with my growing belly and sweet tiny plum babe.  I've learned a few things since the last go round in pregnancy, and if I only knew then what I know now..but isn't that how it always goes?
1 // rodan + fields sunless tanning foam
I've talked about this sunless tanner before (HERE), and now that we've approached the warmer weather months, my attempts to wear less clothing (sleeveless tops, tanks, and dresses) have bared all the pale one's eyes can handle.  Desperate for than sun kissed glow, I opted again for the best (in my opinion) sunless tanner on the market.  I sampled this about a year ago and have been a faithful user since.  It is nearly always sold out, but check with my girl Brittany Laws for your R+F supply:)
2 // humidifier
Where was my head during pregnancy with the twins?  I suffered a stuffy head and nose for 37 weeks.  Literally hours after giving birth I thought to myself "I can freaking breath!"  My biggest complaint in pregnancy has always been congestion, and after one night spent with a humidifier, congestion was gone and I was breathing easy again. Not to mention how cute the Crane humidifiers are, am I right?
3 // bravado body silk seamless nursing bra
Just in preparation for nursing, I've started to do some research on nursing bras of quality.  It was honestly an afterthought when I had Parker and Jolie, and when I finally went out to buy one, I was lost as to what was the right option for me.. and lets be real- I was also very sleep deprived and probably thinking about spending my money on food, not a bra.  I made this purchase thinking I was getting ahead of myself and uber prepared for the little sister's's arrival, only to realize that this is MUCH more comfortable than the underwire bras I've been wearing.  Without going into too much detail- 32 DD bras come in about three colors- all of the neon kind..and this growing belly is getting in the way of the underwire.  ANYway, I've been wearing this bra non-stop and plan to grab a few more once baby girls makes her debut.
4 // snoogle pillow
The best pregnancy purchase to date.  I was just barely into my second trimester when I was begging (demanding) Jordan to get this pillow down from its throne in the attic.  I nearly thought to bring it as my carry on to the plane for a couple trips I took during this last month.. and although I would have gotten a few smirks, all you motherlovers out there would have given me a nod in my efforts for comfort for the hotel beds.
5 // panty liners
While I'm not much of a panty-liner kinda gal in my 'normal life', pregnancy has made me a believer and a serial user of the liners.  Pregnancy is messy.. and with all the extra fluid, you are bound to have some leakage somewhere (too much..?).  I love and was relieved to see that there was a thong option.. because, well.. anyway, I've probably overstepped with adding the word 'leakage' to this blog post, so I'll stop there.  If you are pregnant or have been pregnant, you know what I'm saying.
6 // honest co. hand sanitizer
I more or less spent my entire first trimester sick as a dog.  I was on antibiotics for literally 3 months straight, and was basically miserable.  I have since become very aware of germs and the efforts for staying well have gone into full force since then.  I came upon honest co. hand sanitizer spray originally at target and I'm mad at myself for not buying everything they have on their shelves.  I haven't been able to get it there since (they have the gel, but I personally prefer the spray), but thank goodness for my online shopping habits.  REALLY easy to hosing down the toddlers after a potty break at the mall (public bathrooms are so.. sooo blechh), and I actually really like the smell.  Not perfume-y at all, but really fresh and clean.
7 // honest co. belly balm
You can get this at target (can I get an amen?) and I've been an advocate of this belly balm since first sight.  I have used other creams, and continue to go back to the balm/oils for my itchy belly.  Nothing seems to moisturize quite like them, and even after applying post shower at 6am that morning, at 6pm that same evening I can still feel like my skin is silky and not dry and itchy.
8 // full-panel maternity skinny jeans
I was ALL about the underbelly maternity jeans in my pregnancy with the twins.  I thought I hated full-panel maternity, but what I have come to realize was that I wasn't trying on or buying anything with quality. While I still love the under the belly option, they don't make my favorite jeans anymore (loved by Heidi Klum).  I find myself going back to the full panel over and over again.. and these Indigo Rein Maternity Jeans by Motherhood Maternity are by far my favorite (and oh-so-fashionable)
